Cultural Event @ UWG: Talent Show
Talent shows usaually showcase many types of talent. However, at this show there wasn't a lot of talent. There was a girl who did spoken word, and she was very good. Her word usage had me confused, but I understood it at the same. All of the singing wasn't good, but the show was OK. Also, I give all of the people credit for going on stage, because a lot of them were very nervous.

Self Portrait:Kahlil Ansari

This is my self portrait. It doesn't look like me but I imagined the idea that the most accurate way to represent myself would be to take a paintbrush and just paint, letting my subconscious take control of the final product.

The day I went to the High Museum of Art, I also went to Little Five Points, Atlanta to see my nephew, Jake, and get pictures of some graffiti. He helped us out a lot. While we were together I interviewed my nephew about his art. Jake plays in a band called the Nashvillains. This is a bluegrass group. They are great! I asked Jake why he does this and he responded, "I gotta' play." I guess that sums it up. Jake is a musician. He can play any instrument he chooses. He is a very talented young man. He also has juvenile diabetes and has no home. He is what he calls a "couch-hopper". He can do any lighting and sound job at any type of venue. But he loves music. Jake can sit on the street at Little Five Points and make fifty dollars per hour. He waits tables or does anything he can to earn a few bucks.

Amy Bodle is currently an art teacher at Oakland Elementary. She has been a art teacher for 29 years. Amy was an art teacher at Henry County High School for eighteen years and has been at Oakland Elementary for eleven years.

Erin: Why are you an art teacher?

Amy: I am an art teacher because I belive that I can make the children feel that they are successful at something and that they have fullfilled an accomplishment. The other reason I am an art teacher is because I believe art is absolutely crucial for brain development and expressing oneself.

Erin: What is the meaning behind your work?

Amy: It is my expression for my love of humanity, God's creatures, and elements of earth.

Tiffany Sanders 5 Cultural Events

First Cultural Event: Anne Frank Exhibit

In West Georgia's school library is where the exhibit was located. It gives great details on the life of Anne Frank which took place from 1929- 1945. During the 1940's the jews were severly restricted and force to stay in concentration camps. The Frank family and four others were forced to go into hiding on july 6, 1942 with four others. During this time anne made a diary of her thoughts and feelings and the horror going on around her. Two years later on August 4, 1944 the naziz raided the franks hiding and sent them away to the concentration camps they tried so had to avoid. Anne and her sister died of typhus in march 1945. My favorite part of the exhibit is where they recreated the room she and the others called their secret hiding place.

Second Cultural Event: Secret Lives of Bees

I went to the Regal movie theatre located in Kennesaw. The movie is about a little girl and her house keeper that run away from their home. They end up staying with a black family that takes them in. During this time period race was a big issue and many whites and blacks didn't get along and had many conflicts. So while the little girl stays with her new black family she learns about many secrets in her own family. I liked the movie alot and recommend it to anyone who likes movies that are interested to see how times were decades ago.

Third Cultural Event: World War II and Cold War Artifacts
This exhibit was also in our school library. It taught you about WWII and the Cold War's artifacts and primary documents. Each war had its own teaching trunk filled with documents, photographs, maps, and artifacts from both eras. The WWII trunk was on major events and individuals involved in both the Pacific and European theatres. Which involved Navajo Code Talkers, the Tuskegee Airmen, and local WWII veterans. The Cold War trunk had five major topics in it. The iron Curtain and the Berlin Airlift, the Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis and living in the Atomic Age, the Vietnam War, and the Berlin Wall and collapse of the Soviet Union.

Cultural Event 4: Ken Stanton Music Store

This store was in marietta Georgia. Ithought it would be neat and different for me to go to a music store as one of my cultural events. While i was in the store i got a chance to view, learn, and play many different insturements. The employess that worked there showed me and talked to me in detail about each of the insturements. My favorite was the piano because over time they have evolved and now instead of just playing the piano with a switch of a button you can play the violin, drums, or even a trumpet.

Cultural Event 5: Speaker Tom Murphy

This exhibit was in our school library. Murphy served in the Georgia House of representatives from 1961 to 2003. Histenure as speaker of the house is the longest in Georgia state history. In 1943 he graduated North Georgia College and joined the navy. After serving during WWII he returned back to GA and married Agnes Bennett they later had four children. In 1960 he was elected into the house and became speaker in 1973 after the death of George L. Smith. He lost the election in 2002 but became known for serving the longest amount of time in the nation. 2004 he suffered a stroke and died December 17, 2007.

Jordan: Right now, my favorite thing to design is band posters and announcements.
